A person walking on the 710 Freeway was hit and killed by a suspected intoxicated driver early Sunday morning in Long Beach, according to the CHP.

The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 24 while the pedestrian was in the northbound lanes of the 710 near Anaheim Street, authorities said.

It’s not clear why the person was walking in the roadway, but a car hit him or her in the No. 2 lane, the CHP said.

CHP officers shut down the northbound freeway, and paramedics headed to the scene and determined the person was dead.

The driver stayed at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, the CHP said.

The crash is still under investigation, and no further details were immediately available.
