Long Beach police say they are looking for a driver who fatally sideswiped an 80-year-old bicyclist earlier this week.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the crash happened around 12:15 p.m. Monday on Atlantic Avenue near Pleasant Street, which is just north of Del Amo Boulevard.

The bicyclist was headed northbound on Atlantic and merging from the bicycle lane into the No. 1 lane when a white SUV in the No. 2 lane “sideswiped the bicyclist and continued northbound without stopping,” police said in a news release.

Paramedics took the bicyclist to a local hospital where he died, police said. The department identified him as Enrique Barajas, a Long Beach resident.

Police asked anyone with information about the crash to contact detectives at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips can be sent through Crime Stoppers
