A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after shooting at a group of people talking in a Cambodia Town alley Sunday night, according to police.
The group of men and women were standing in the alley near E. 14th Street and Raymond Avenue when the gunman opened fire around 8:40 p.m., Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said.
Someone who heard the shots called police, and when officers arrived, one of the men in the alley told them someone had shot and then taken off on foot, police said.
Officers found a man matching the gunman’s description a short distance away, De Prez said. A motive for the shooting isn’t yet clear, she said.
De Prez said officers arrested Mally Soth, 33, on suspicion of attempt murder, possession of burglary tools, driving without a license and violating his probation. The Long Beach resident was held without bail at the Long Beach Jail, police said.
Nobody was hurt by the gunfire. Officers found bullet casings at the scene along with strike marks on a building and fence, De Prez said.
