A routine Long Beach Police traffic stop around 10th Street and Ohio Avenue lead to the arrest of an auto burglar on Sept. 30. The man, who is suspected to be responsible for 40 counts of burglary in the East Division, was charged with six counts of auto burglary and receiving known stolen property.
At the time of his arrest, Long Beach resident Israel Valencia, 33, was in the possession of several stereos and GPS units. Officers believe the possessions were obtained from three robberies that had just occurred in the area of Redondo Avenue and Anaheim Street.
After reviewing surveillance video from the area, Long Beach detectives discovered footage of the suspect breaking into and robbing a parked car. The possessions found with Valencia were identified by the victims, who have agreed to prosecute. Valencia was arrested and booked for auto burglary and receiving known stolen property.
According to the Long Beach Police Department’s Reported Crime Statistics, there were 1,664 cases of auto burglaries in 2013 as of September 30.
