A woman who illegally performed aesthetic procedures at a Long Beach beauty salon was arrested Thursday in connection with the death of a customer who went into cardiac arrest under her care, Long Beach police said today.

Salon Death SuspectSandra Perez Gonzalez was arrested for possession of controlled substances after detectives investigating the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of 36-year-old Hamilet Suarez discovered medical equipment and multiple vials of chemicals in a treatment room Gonzalez rented inside a Wrigley Village salon.

According to police, officers were called to Areli’s Beauty Salon at 2113 Pacific Ave. around noon Wednesday to assist with Suarez who was in cardiac arrest. Originally, officers were told that Suarez went to the salon to get a massage, but went into cardiac arrest before the massage began. Conflicting reports of the incident, however, prompted homicide detectives to respond to the scene.

Investigators say Gonzalez was a licensed massage therapist who provided massages for her customers, however she also advertises providing vampire facelifts, butt augmentation and lip augmentation procedures, all things she is not licensed to perform. Gonzalez has been performing the procedures at the salon in question for around a month.

Long Beach Police Department urges anyone who may have received these types of treatments from Gonzalez to contact LBPD Homicide Detectives Scott Lasch and Donald Goodman at (562) 570-7244.  Additionally, LBPD strongly encourages those individuals to contact their physician to be evaluated to ensure they do not suffer any future medical issues as a result of the procedures illegally provided to them by Gonzalez.
