Long Beach police are investigating a shooting in North Long Beach on Sunday evening that left a man dead on the sidewalk.

Officers were called to the 5800 block of Orange Avenue, near South Street, at about 10 p.m. about a shooting, spokesman Ivan Garcia said. When they got there, they found a man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his upper body. The officers gave the man first aid until paramedics got there and determined him dead at the scene, Garcia said.

Officials identified him as 49-year-old Archie Harris from Bellflower, he said.

“The preliminary investigation suggests the suspect is a male adult who fled the scene on foot,” police said. “Detectives are actively collecting evidence and conducting interviews in an effort to determine what led to the shooting and who is responsible.”
