The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Bomb Squad was called Sunday to inspect a suspicious package found near the Virginia Country Club, closing neighboring streets and evacuating residents before it was found to be safe, according to Long Beach police officials.

Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokesperson Marlene Arrona said officers were dispatched to Atlantic and 45th Street regarding a suspicious package at a bus stop.

According to her, the LASD was called to assist with the investigation and nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution. Neighboring roads—Atlantic Avenue, between Del Amo and San Antonio—were closed to through traffic during the process.

By 3:10PM Sunday afternoon, the item was rendered safe and no explosive material was found. Atlantic Avenue was opened.

The investigation is ongoing, according to Arrona.
