UPDATE | Long Beach police discovered a large amount of drugs inside a Carroll Park home Tuesday morning after a shooting inside the home wounded a man.

“The preliminary investigation revealed the victim and suspect had engaged in a verbal dispute with one another while inside the residence prior to the shooting occurring,” police spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said.

Police arrested 26-year-old Matthew Yacoubian on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a firearm on a person, being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of sale and possessing a controlled substance while armed. He is being held in jail on a $1 million bail.

Jail records show Yacoubian lived in the home where police found five guns, a “large quantity” of cocaine, approximately 250 pills believed to be fentanyl, approximately 200 Xanax pills and over $3,000 in cash.

Detectives will present their case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office this week, De Prez said.
