A close to 90-minute vehicle chase began in Palmdale, wound its way through the Long Beach area and ended this morning on a freeway in Irvine, where law enforcement arrested two people—including one using a wheelchair—on suspicion of kidnapping a woman.

The suspects’ vehicle, a red Toyota, ran out of gas on the northbound San Diego freeway near the Culver Drive exit about 12:30 a.m., KCAL9 reported.

The chase began around 11 p.m. Thursday in Palmdale, where a woman was abducted by the two suspects, yet was still able to text her boyfriend, KCAL9 reported.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a man who said his girlfriend was sending him text messages from inside the Toyota, saying two men had taken her and were not letting her out of the car, KCBS2 reported.

Media outlets picked up the chase about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, when the Toyota was being driven erratically on the southbound 110 Freeway in Gardena, continuing onto the northbound 710 Freeway, the southbound 405 Freeway in Signal Hill and the southbound 405 Freeway in Westminster.

The red Toyota ran out of gas about 12:30 a.m. on the southbound 405 Freeway in Irvine, where the suspect was ordered out of the vehicle first, followed by the alleged victim.

California Highway Patrol officers then surrounded the car, pulled out a wheelchair from the rear of the vehicle and put the alleged second suspect into the wheelchair.
