A 28-year-old man with outstanding drug- and weapons-related arrest warrants was taken into custody Monday afternoon after leading officers on a vehicle chase from Seal Beach to Lakewood.

Just after 2 p.m., an officer came upon a vehicle blocking traffic at the intersection of Seal Beach Boulevard and Westminster Avenue and when the officer approached the vehicle, the driver took off, according to Seal Beach police Sgt. Mike Henderson.

The suspect, later identified as Roy Thomas of Long Beach, led officers on a chase through Long Beach and Lakewood before exiting the vehicle near the intersection of Carson Street and Paramount Boulevard. He was caught a short distance away, Henderson said.

“The suspect was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm,” Henderson said. “Additionally, the suspect was found to have several outstanding warrants for his arrest (for weapons and drug offenses).”

Thomas was booked on suspicion of possession of an unregistered firearm, evading arrest and reckless driving, Henderson said.
