A man suspected of fatally stabbing his wife at their Compton home was being held today on $2 million bail.

Deputies sent to the 15600 block of South Frailey Avenue about 10 a.m. Monday found Melanie Ann Cunningham with stab wounds to her upper body, according to the coroner’s office and the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

That area is near where Alondra Boulevard crosses the 710 Freeway, about a mile above Long Beach’s norther border.

Cunningham was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, Henry Cunningham, 66, was booked on suspicion of murder, sheriff’s Deputy Trina Schrader said.

The violence was the result of a domestic dispute, Schrader said.

The woman had turned 58 on Sunday, and the couple had celebrated her birthday that night, according to a family member.
