Police arrested a man on suspicion of stabbing a woman during a domestic dispute near Orizaba Park Thursday night, according to authorities.

Police said the attack happened around 8:20 p.m. in the area of 14th Street and Orizaba Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a woman who’d been stabbed in the upper torso, but the wounds didn’t appear to be life-threatening, Long Beach Police Lt. James Richardson said.

Paramedics took her to the hospital, and police arrested a man at the scene, he said. Police did not specify their relationship or what may have sparked the domestic violence.

About an hour later, officers were called to an unrelated shooting in North Long Beach that doesn’t appear to have wounded anyone, Richardson said.

In that case, shots were fired in the 200 block of E. 49th Street, which is just north of Scherer Park.

Police found a car and a house that had been hit by the gunfire. They also found shell casings, according to Richardson, but no victims or suspects have been located.

Police are still investigating, he said.
