A man was hospitalized after being shot in Long Beach overnight, and the shooter was at-large, according to authorities.

Police said the man was shot multiple times in the lower body. Officers found him around 1:20 a.m. near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, about a mile from where the shooting actually happened, according to Lt. James Richardson of the Long Beach Police Department.

Paramedics were called to the scene and took the victim to a hospital where he’s expected to survive, Richardson said.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim was wounded in a shooting near 14th Street and Chestnut Avenue near Washington Middle School, according to police. He was able to drive himself to the area of Atlantic Avenue and PCH, where he was found, Richardson said.

A description of the shooter was not available. It wasn’t immediately clear why the victim drove away from the scene or how police found him.

A motive for the shooting was under investigation. The age of the victim was not disclosed.
