Police say they arrested a Long Beach woman this morning on suspicion of driving under the influence, felony hit-and-run, and gross vehicular manslaughter after she allegedly crashed into a group of bicyclists in Huntington Beach.

The crash happened around 6:45 a.m. near Pacific Coast Highway and Newland Street, the Huntington Beach Police Department said in a news release.

They said a woman in a 2006 Mercedes E-Class hit three bicyclists as they rode in the bike lane. Police allege the woman then kept driving, leaving the three cyclist seriously injured in the roadway. One died at the scene, and the two others were taken to nearby hospitals “with severe injuries,” police said.

Police said the Mercedes stopped about a half mile away from the crash, and officers quickly arrested the woman. They identified her as Amber Calderon, a 43-year-old Long Beach resident.

In addition to manslaughter, hit-and-run and DUI, she was also booked into jail on suspicion of narcotics possession. A police spokesperson did not disclose what type of narcotics Calderon allegedly had in her possession.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed the name of the deceased bicyclist.
