UPDATE | Five people were injured in the stabbing spree that occurred on Fourth Street around 2:00AM this morning, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officials confirmed this afternoon.

According to LBPD Sgt. Bradley Johnson, officers were dispatched at 2:00AM to the affected area of Fourth Street, where they immediately discovered four subjects with stab wounds to their upper and lower torsos. A fifth victim was discovered when they reported their injury a few hours later.

The stabbing appears to have begun with a verbal confrontation among a number of drunk people, one of whom pulled the knife.

“The investigation reveals that all subjects were involved in a physical fight after leaving a local establishment,” said Johnson.

All injuries are non-life threatening, Johnson stated. As reported earlier, all subjects were transported to local hospitals. There does not appear to be any gang involvement at this time, according to Bradley.

At this point, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

PREVIOUSLY: Early Morning Stabbing Spree on Fourth Street Hospitalizes at Least Three

At 11:28AM | Several people were rushed to the hospital early this morning with stab wounds after a drunken altercation between the 1100 and 1400 blocks of East Fourth Street.

The incident occurred at around 2:00AM when the bars were closing and is still under investigation. The number of victims hospitalized and the extent of their injuries remains unclear, according to authorities.

According to Jake Heflin, Long Beach Fire Department spokesman, fire department paramedics transported four victims to the hospital—one in critical condition and three with minor wounds.

Long Beach police only have a record of three victims with minor stab wounds being transported, said Lt. David Faris.

“One person pulled a knife and three people suffered minor stab wounds,” Faris said. “If there was a fourth person stabbed, I don’t know about it.”

Faris said officials did not have any leads on potential suspects.

Police closed off parts of Fourth Street until around 5:30AM during the investigation.
