Long Beach police say a man died in the hospital this week, several days after he was hit by a car while riding an electric scooter near Jordan High School.
The crash happened at about 9:40 a.m. on April 29, according to the Long Beach Police Department. That’s when a 19-year-old in a 2019 Honda Accord was headed northbound on Atlantic Avenue toward Artesia Boulevard, they said.
“The driver failed to stop for a red light and collided with the scooter operator who was in a marked crosswalk,” police said.
The scooter rider was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries on May 3, police said.
The LBPD said the driver cooperated with the investigation, and detectives suspect speed was a factor in the crash.
Authorities haven’t publicly released the name of the deceased man.
Police asked anyone with information about the crash to call Detective Efrain Pineda at 562 570-7355. Anonymous tips can be sent through LACrimeStoppers.org.
