A 51-year-old resident of the supportive housing complex Century Villages at Cabrillo in West Long Beach has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of his roommate, authorities said today.

Police allege Eric Doore stabbed Ricky Rodriguez to death Sunday night when an altercation between the two escalated, police said. Rodriguez was in his 60s, according to police.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed a murder charge against Doore Wednesday, but his arraignment was delayed so he hasn’t yet entered a plea.

Both men were veterans, one of the target demographics of the supportive housing complex, according to a statement from Century Villages at Cabrillo.

“This has been a tragic and horrifying blow to Century Villages at Cabrillo,” Executive Director Steve Colman said in the statement. “This moment is a first for us, and it does not define us.”

Doore is scheduled to appear in court on June 6. He is currently being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Downtown Los Angeles on $2 million bail, records show.
