04/15/16 at 2:15PM | A fight between two men at a Long Beach Metro Blue Line stop early Friday morning resulted in the fatal stabbing of one and the hospitalization of the other, authorities said.
The incident happened at the Wardlow Station on the 3400 block of North Pacific Place just after 2:00AM on Friday, April 15, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD).
The victim died at the scene while the suspected killer was hospitalized in critical condition with self-inflicted knife wounds, authorities said.
“Transit Policing Division deputies were patrolling the Wardlow Blue Line station platform and came upon two men involved in a physical altercation,” LASD officials said in a statement. “One of the men was laying injured on the ground, when the other realized deputy personnel were present, he fled the scene towards West Wardlow Road.”
Deputies then called for backup and several units with the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) responded.
Long Beach officers located the uncooperative suspect as he fled on foot and used several less lethal weapons before he was taken into custody about a half mile from the crime scene, authorities reported.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition. Officials said he is being treated for self-inflicted knife wounds.
Partial rail operation service was restored at 5:40AM, according to authorities.
The motive for the stabbing is unknown.
