A former football coach at a Long Beach high school was scheduled to be arraigned today for allegedly having a nine-month sexual relationship with a then-15-year-old female student.

Malcolm Smith, 24, allegedly carried on the relationship from November 2014 to August 2015, while serving as a wide receivers coach at Woodrow Wilson High School, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

The alleged victim came forward to law enforcement in December of last year, leading to charges being filed on Monday. Smith was arrested Wednesday.

He was charged with nine counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and one count of oral copulation of a person under 18. He is being held on $230,000 bail.

Smith faces up to nine years in prison if convicted, along with lifetime sex offender registration.
