On Saturday, December 19, the Long Beach Police Department’s (LBPD) Traffic Section conducted a DUI Saturation patrol from 7:00PM to 3:00AM. The officers conducted 62 enforcement stops, 15 sobriety tests, made four DUI arrests, towed two vehicles for DUI and issued 10 traffic citations for unsafe driving, according to the LBPD.

During a DUI saturation patrol, instead of setting up a scheduled DUI Checkpoint, motor officers patrol the city in search of impaired drivers.

In a statement, the LBPD recommended people remember that drunk driving is preventable, with proper planning, and encouraged the use the California Office of Traffic Safety Designated Driver VIP (DDVIP) mobile app, which is now available for mobile download.

Through the app, which launched last year, users will be able to locate establishments that offer incentives for participating in the app, which helps users order a sober ride from Uber, Lyft or Curb, all on one screen.

Funding for this DUI operation is provided to the Long Beach Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Driver – Call 9-1-1.’
