Long Beach police say a homeless man was arrested this morning on suspicion of stabbing another homeless man during an argument outside the Gaucho Beach restaurant on the downtown shoreline.

At about 10:15 a.m., officers responded to the 700 block of East Shoreline Drive after receiving reports of a stabbing, Long Beach police spokesperson Andrea Moran wrote in an email.

When they arrived, officers found a man with multiple stab wounds to his upper body, Moran wrote. Paramedics transported the victim to a hospital in stable condition.

Investigators determined he was stabbed during an argument with another man, who was arrested nearby, Moran wrote.

Both men were believed to be experiencing homelessness, Moran wrote.

The name and age of the suspected stabber were not immediately available.

The altercation apparently happened just outside the restaurant’s pickup window on the west side of the building. Blood stains were still on the concrete hours later.

A few encampments also remained on a grassy area near the restaurant.
