Police arrested a man suspected of shooting from a Jeep that was being driven through West Long Beach Sunday night, according to authorities.

Someone saw the gunman firing off rounds from the passenger seat of a black Jeep near Pacific Coast Highway and the 710 Freeway around 8:30 p.m., Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said.

Officers weren’t able to find anyone hit by the gunfire, but they found the Jeep at a gas station at PCH and Harbor Avenue where they approached two men inside the vehicle, Pratt said.

“Officers located a firearm within the vehicle and took the male passenger into custody without incident,” she said.

Police identified him as Luis Valencia Chavez, a 30-year-old Los Angeles resident.

He was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a stolen loaded firearm, and discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, Pratt said. He was booked into Long Beach Jail on $35,000 bail, according to authorities.

Police said they also arrested the Jeep’s driver on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon, permitting a person to discharge a firearm from a vehicle, carrying a stolen loaded firearm, negligently discharging a firearm and having an outstanding DUI warrant.

Authorities identified him as Daniel Cardenas, 28. He was booked into Long Beach Jail in lieu of $71,000 bail, Pratt said.
