A man fired multiple gunshots toward a North Long Beach gas station as he ran away from an employee who stopped him from stealing anything, police said this morning.

Police said the incident happened around 4 a.m. Monday at an Arco gas station in the 6000 block of Long Beach Boulevard, which is just north of where it crosses the 710 Freeway.

According to Long Beach police, the man went into the store and tried to steal several items before a gas station employee intervened and stopped him in a “physical altercation.”

The man then ran away from the gas station, but as he fled, he fired a gun “multiple times” toward the business, the Long Beach Police Department said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Nobody was hit by the gunfire, police said. The employee suffered minor injuries during their altercation, the LBPD said, but he refused medical treatment.

There was no description available for the suspect, who ultimately didn’t manage to steal anything, police said.
