A gunman opened fire on a driver in the Wrigley area, wounding him, shortly before 12:45 a.m. Monday, police said.

The victim was driving near Willow Street and Pacific Avenue when the shooter walked up and started firing, hitting the driver multiple times in the lower body, Long Beach Police Department spokesman Ivan Garcia said.

Police say the shooter then got into a black SUV and drove off. The victim, meanwhile, drove himself to a local hospital and walked in, Garcia said.

The victim is expected to survive, according to police. Investigators believe the incident was gang-related. Any further details weren’t immediately available.
