A 53 year-old Hawaiian Gardens gang member was arrested Wednesday for the Tuesday night shooting that left a woman dead and a man hospitalized in Long Beach. 

Robert Rubio Jr. of Hawaiian Gardens, was arrested without incident at the home of a friend in Hawaiian Gardens, according to police, and is being booked on murder and attempted murder. He will be arriagned Friday. 

Long Beach Police Department officers originaly responded to a call in the 3500 block of Monica Avenue at around 10:00PM Tuesday night and discovered 54-year-old Monica Barboza deceased with a gunshot wound inside the converted garage of a two-story residence, where she had apparently been living. 

A short time later, LBPD was notified that a 52-year-old resident of Hawaiian Gardens, a family member who was visiting the location at the time the shooting occurred, had been transported to the hospital by a friend and was a second victim in the shooting. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

The investigation soon led them to Rubio, who, according to police, had been involved in “an ongoing dispute with other residents who reside in the home, which ultimately led to the shooting.”
