A Long Beach man was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Pacific Coast Highway at Lewis Avenue on Wednesday night and investigators suspect the driver was under the influence, police said.

Detectives believe a driver in a 2003 Mercury sedan was going east on PCH shortly before 7:15 p.m. when he hit a parked vehicle before hitting a pedestrian who was trying to cross the street outside a crosswalk.

The pedestrian, identified as 32-year-old Jackson Allender, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, police said.

The driver in the Mercury fled the scene but was later arrested by patrol officers, the LBPD said. Police identified him as 30-year-old Joshua Lemusu from Long Beach and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence, gross vehicular manslaughter and failure to stop at a scene of a traffic accident causing bodily injuries.

He is being held in jail on $100,000 bail.

Police ask anyone with information regarding the collision to contact Detective Shawn Loughlin or Detective Kelsey Myers at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips may be submitted by calling 800-222-8477 or by visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org.
