A deceased man was discovered with suspicious injuries in Long Beach Thursday, and police say detectives found signs of foul play.

Officers responded around 8:30 a.m. Thursday to the 6500 block of Muriel Avenue, north of the 91 Freeway, regarding reports of a deceased person in the area, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Responding officers located the victim, but police said the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

The deceased man was later identified as 33-year-old Kenneth Shannon of Long Beach.

Police did not release any further details about what led to the fatal attack, saying the case remains under investigation.
