Long Beach police surrounded a home today believing they had cornered a man inside, until he showed up at a local hospital where the woman he’d attacked was being treated, according to the LBPD.

Police said the man stabbed the woman during a domestic altercation around 10:45 a.m. They were inside a home near 11th Street and Stanley Avenue, Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy said.

“Assisting officers responded to search the residence and it appeared that the suspect was inside,” Dandoy said. Police cordoned off the area and alerted residents to stay away while they tried to get the man out.

While officers still had the home surrounded, the suspect showed up at the hospital and tried to contact the victim, according to police.

“He fled the scene and is still outstanding,” Dandoy said.

Police said the woman’s wounds weren’t life-threatening.
