Man shot while jogging near Orizaba Park, authorities say
A man was shot while jogging near Orizaba Park and taken to an area hospital to treat non-life-threatening wounds early Thursday morning, according to authorities.
A Long Beach Police Department spokesperson said officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of Spaulding Street in the city’s Zaferia neighborhood around 1:30 a.m. after a shooting was reported. The victim, who had gunshot wounds to his upper body, was taken to the hospital in stable condition, according to the spokesman, Brandon Fahey.
The victim told officers he was running near 14th Street and Temple Avenue when a car pulled in front of him and an unknown person exited the vehicle and shot him, Fahey said. The victim fled on foot for a few blocks to the area where officers ultimately found him.
Fahey said that strike marks and bullet casings were found at the scene but the motive for the shooting is unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
