Long Beach police say they arrested a Los Angeles Police Department officer after she became violent with a man she was dating, causing their car to crash early Monday morning.
Marilyn Mayte Briseno, 28, has been an LAPD officer since August 2023, according to a national index of police employees.
A spokesperson with the LBPD said Briseno was riding in the car when she and her date — who is also a police officer — “were involved in a domestic violence incident,” which appears to have caused him to crash along the side of Carson Street near San Anseline Avenue around 1:17 a.m. Both officers were off duty, according to the LBPD.
Long Beach police arrived and initially arrested both of them, but soon determined that Briseno was the suspect and he was a victim, according to the spokesperson.
While police detained Briseno, she tried to leave and assaulted an officer, according to the LBPD. The officer was not hurt.
Briseno was booked into Long Beach Jail on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence and battery on a peace officer, according to a booking log. She was released after posting bond on $20,000 bail, records show.
The LAPD and the union that represents LAPD officers did not respond to inquiries Tuesday.
