A Long Beach man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly driving under the influence in Compton late May and striking a pedestrian who died over a month later, according to authorities.

Reginald Ross, 58, had initially been arrested at the time of the incident for suspicion of DUI, but released when the district attorney’s office said it needed more evidence.

The crash took place May 30 at about 6:30PM on Wilmington Avenue just north of Greenleaf Boulevard, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said. The victim, 42-year-old Marvin Jones was sent to a hospital in critical condition, according to officials.

Jones died from his injuries in the hospital on July 7.

Investigators eventually gathered more evidence on the crash prompting prosecutors to file the case. Ross was arrested once again on Wednesday and booked at the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood for suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and DUI.

He is being held at the Inmate Reception Center in lieu of $250,000 bail with no arraignment set yet, according to inmate records.
