A 62-year-old man died Thursday after he was hit by a driver while crossing Pacific Coast Highway in a marked crosswalk about a week earlier, officials said.
He was identified as James Herbert Lee Jones, from Long Beach, police said.
Jones was hit on Dec. 22 just before 8:20 a.m. on PCH and Harbor Avenue in West Long Beach. When officers first got arrived, Jones was in the roadway with serious injuries. Paramedics took him to a local hospital, where he later died.
“The preliminary investigation found that the driver of a blue Honda Civic failed to yield for the pedestrian as he was crossing Pacific Coast Highway in a marked crosswalk,” police said. “The driver failed to stop and continued eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway.”
Police do not yet have the driver in custody, a spokeswoman said.
