A man faces up to 13 years in jail after he was convicted yesterday for repeatedly harassing his ex-girlfriend, a Long Beach resident, by sending her text messages and visiting her house in the middle of the night, according to the city prosecutor’s office.
Steven Thomas Faber, 48, was convicted of 13 misdemeanor counts by a jury that heard evidence of more than 50 contacts made by the defendant after the court issued a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the victim, officials stated. Faber is from the Temple City/Duarte area, according to the victim.
Those contacts included text messages, social media postings, emails and letters left on her porch and car windshield.
The harassment started after the victim ended their seven-week relationship, according to officials. Fearing for her safety, she obtained a restraining order against Fabar four days later, after multiple contacts. Fabar violated the restraining order about 50 times over the next five months, causing the victim to disconnect her personal and work cell phones and delete all social media accounts, officials stated.
“No one should have to endure months of harassment after ending a relationship,” said City Prosecutor Doug Haubert in a statement
The victim just wanted to be left alone, said Deputy City Prosecutor Nadine Dahdah, who handled the case.
“Unfortunately, the victim had to alter her life because of the defendant’s stalker-like conduct,” Dahdah said in a statement.
Fabar faces up to 13 years in jail, in addition to fines and probation, when he is sentenced on November 17 in Department 8 of the Long Beach Courthouse.
