A Long Beach man was found guilty Tuesday of killing his wife last year, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Kevin Adonis Forrest was found guilty of first-degree murder after the jury deliberated for less than two hours, said Deputy District Attorney Janis Johnson in a statement.

Jurors also found true special allegations of personally and intentionally discharging a handgun, which was used to injure and kill the woman, as well as personally using a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife.

Forrest faces a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in state prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced October 30 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Long Beach branch.

Johnson said Forrest fatally shot and stabbed his wife of 18 years, Kathleen Ann Forrest, 59, on February 27, 2013. He also tried to dismember her but was unsuccessful, Johnson said.

Forrest called police four days later and said he killed his wife. Authorities arrived at his home in the 6500 block of Falcon Ave., discovered the victim’s body and arrested Forrest.

Forrest testified during the trial that his wife had been verbally abusive to him and that he was drunk the day of the crime. He said he did not remember killing his wife or trying to dismember her, Johnson said, but police found photos taken by Forrest of the woman’s dead body.

The case was investigated by the Long Beach Police Department.
