UPDATE | A Long Beach man pleaded not guilty Friday while standing trial in connection with the killing of a Cal State Northridge (CSUN) student, Abdullah Abdullatif Alkadi, 23, from Saudi Arabia, who was found in the Coachella Valley last year.

12//7/15 at 11:11AM | On Friday, Long Beach resident Agustin Rosendo Fernandez, 29, was ordered to stand trial in the killing of a Cal State Northridge (CSUN) student, Abdullah Abdullatif Alkadi, 23, from Saudi Arabia.

Alkadi’s body was found in the Coachella Valley, on the Interstate 10 east of Cook Street in Palm Desert in October 2014, after disappearing on September 17, 2014.

Fernandez is due in a San Fernando courtroom on December 18 for arraignment in Abdullah’s killing, which investigators say revolved around Alkadi’s sale of his Audi A6, which Alkadi had listed on Craigslist for $30,000.

Last year, investigators determined Alkadi disappeared while showing his car to a prospective buyer.

“The investigation determined that Agustin Fernandez killed Mr. Alkadi in an attempt to keep both the Audi and the purchase price,” the police chief said at the time, cautioning the public to beware when using online Internet sites to sell anything.

Fernandez was found with Alkadi’s car shortly afterward, and made statements that led the police to finding Alkadi’s body. He was charged with murder in October 2014. His charge was unique in that it included allegations of murder during a robbery and murder during a carjacking, alleging Fernandez personally used a knife while committing the murder.

Fernandez is in jail without bail. Prosecutors will decide at a later date whether or not to pursue the death penalty.
