Two Long Beach residents are due back in Long Beach Superior Court on Tuesday after they were charged with four counts of attempted murder in connection with two gang-motivated shootings, authorities said.

Antone David Hutchinson, 23, and 16-year-old Dyllin Pressey—who authorities said was charged as an adult based on the circumstances—were arrested in August following two shootings that happened within 22 minutes of each other, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

On Monday, August 10, officers responded to the 1600 block of 10th Street at 10:30PM during which they found four gunshot victims—including a 20-year-old female and males ages 17, 25 and 31—who were Long Beach residents, officials stated.

They were transported to a local hospital in stable condition and a suspect and vehicle description was broadcast to other officers. The victims were identified by court documents as Cheryl Johnson, Raymond Spruell, Calvin Morrison, and Jahii Merriweather.

Shortly after and a few miles away, police responded to a shots fired call on the 1900 block of Harbor Avenue and found evidence of a shooting but no victims, according to the LBPD.

Witnesses there provided a description of a vehicle that fled the scene similar to the vehicle description in the previous shooting, authorities said.

Later that night, patrol officers stopped Hutchinson who was driving a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description from the shootings. Officers then arrested him for driving without a license.

On Wednesday, August 12, LBPD gang detectives presented their case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and four counts of attempted murder with gang enhancements were filed against Hutchinson, who goes by the street name Baby Set Trip.

Hutchinson was also charged with one count of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, according to court documents. Authorities allege he used a handgun.

Gang detectives, assisted by LBPD’s SWAT team, served a search warrant the next day at a home on the 600 block of Cedar Avenue, during which they recovered an assault rifle and located Pressey, officials stated.

The juvenile—who goes by the street name MAC-80—was taken to LBPD headquarters for questioning and then booked for attempted murder related to the same shooting investigations.

On Monday, August 17, the case was presented to the district attorney’s office, which filed four counts of attempted murder with gang enhancements against Pressey. He was also charged with one count of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, using a rifle.

Both suspects are scheduled to appear for a pre-hearing conference at the Long Beach Superior Courthouse at 8:30AM in Department 1, according to the district attorney’s office. They previously pleaded not guilty during an August 27 arraignment.

Hutchinson is currently being held at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s Inmate Information Center website. It is unknown where Pressey is being held.

Bail is set at $5 million for each suspect.
