A Long Beach officer was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries yesterday in a fight with a La Playa bar patron on Pacific Avenue in the South Wrigley neighborhood of Long Beach.
According to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officials, officers responded to a call of assault at the bar on the 1800 block of Pacific Avenue around 9:45PM.
The confrontation occurred outside of the bar. The officer was injured while using force on the suspect, Edil Moncada, a 26-year-old resident of Long Beach, according LBPD spokesperson Marlene Arrona.
Moncada was hospitalized as a precaution as well, after other responding officers placed him in a carotid restraint, which involves placing the arms around the suspect’s neck and squeezing their arteries to restrict blood supply to the brain.
He was medically cleared and is currently being held in Long Beach City Jail on $50,000 bail, after being booked for battery on a police officer, assault with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer.
The investigation is ongoing, according to Arrona.
