A man was shot to death in Long Beach early Tuesday morning, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

Police received a report of a shooting on the 600 block of East 9th Street at 2:10AM on Tuesday, November 1, LBPD spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said.

Arriving officers found a man struck by gunfire in his upper torso and lying on a walkway between a home and an apartment complex, LBPD Lt. Erik Herzog said. Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) paramedics determined the victim dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Manuel Arechiga of Long Beach.

Arechiga was known to stay at that home sometimes, but Herzog said that was not his permanent residence.

Authorities said it is unknown if the shooting is gang-related and no suspect information is available at this time. In addition, “homicide detectives are actively investigating” the incident.
