UPDATE: A man struck by gunfire Thursday night in a possible gang-related shooting in the Poly High area of Long Beach died on Friday, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officials said.

The man was identified as 42-year-old Long Beach resident Tomas Palmas.

Officers responded to a shooting call on the 1700 block of Cerritos Avenue at 10:36PM on Thursday, July 9, where they discovered Palmas shot in the back and critically wounded, police said.

He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and remained there until he died from his injuries on Friday, July 10, at 7:12PM.

Gang detectives are investigating the possible gang-related incident, LBPD spokeswoman Megan Zabel said.

The motive for the shooting is still unclear and no suspect is in custody.

Officers responded to shooting call on the 1700 block of Cerritos Avenue at 10:36PM on Thursday, July 9, where they discovered a man in his 40s who was shot in the back and critically wounded, police said.

He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
