Officers recovered two handguns at the end of a vehicle pursuit that began in Long Beach and ended in Paramount where the suspect vehicle crashed into another vehicle, leaving the person in that car with minor injuries, authorities said.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop about 8:40 p.m. Friday in the area of Orange Avenue and 70th Way after observing the suspect vehicle allegedly committing several traffic violations, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
“After refusing to pull over, the vehicle attempted to flee, resulting in a brief vehicle pursuit,” according to a police statement. “The pursuit ended in the city of Paramount, near Orange Avenue and Alondra Boulevard, when the suspect vehicle collided into another vehicle, driven by a male adult victim.”
The man suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The male adult suspect was arrested and transported to a local hospital for minor injuries sustained in the traffic collision. He was then transported to Long Beach City Jail for booking.
The suspect was identified as Dayton Thomask Nihipali, 25, who was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, reckless evading of a police officer, prohibited possessor in possession of a firearm, prohibited possessor in possession of ammunition, possession of a large capacity magazine and possession of a firearm without a serial number.
During their investigation, officers recovered two loaded firearms, one of which was unserialized. The investigation was ongoing.
