Police officers responded to four separate calls related to gunfire Friday night—an unusually high number in Long Beach.

In one of the shootings, two children were in a car that was struck by gunfire. In another incident, a man was found with a stab wound and a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital with wounds that weren’t life-threatening, police said.

Below are the incidents in chronological order:

  • 6:45 p.m. Officers were called to the area of 20th Street and Long Beach Boulevard about a shooting, police said. Officers found a man with a gunshot wound and a stab wound. The victim did not cooperate with police, and the suspect—described only as a man—fled the scene before officers arrived, according to the LBPD. Officers discovered bullet casings during their investigation, but they have not yet determined what the motive of the shooting was. The wounded man was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening wounds.
  • 8:55 p.m. Officers responded to a shots-fired call near Veterans Park in the 200 block of E. 29th Street, police said. At the scene, officers located bullet casings and determined an unknown suspect had fired the shots and fled the scene before they arrived, police said. The investigation also revealed a building was struck by the gunfire.
  • 9:15 p.m. Officers met with a gunshot victim being treated at a local hospital. The victim, identified only as a man, did not offer police any more information on the shooting including where it took place, police said. Officers are continuing to investigate the shooting but have not located where it happened or discovered any information on a potential suspect, according to the LBPD.
  • 10:20 p.m. Police dispatched officers to the 1600 block of Linden Avenue, near Poly High School, for a call about a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman who were in the car with two children, who said their vehicle was struck by the gunfire, police said. No one inside the car was hit, police said. During the investigation, officers located strike marks on the car where the bullets hit and bullet casings on the ground, police said. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, according to police.

Police urged the public to contact investigators at 562-570-7370 if they had additional information on any of the shootings.
