A man and a 3-year-old boy were shot and wounded Sunday night in s home in the Lincoln neighborhood near 10th Street and Alamitos Avenue, police said.

The victims are now in stable condition at local hospitals, according to authorities and a family member who spoke to reporters.

Neighbor Keisha Johnson said that around 10:45 p.m. Sunday, she heard a series of gunshots and people screaming, “My baby, help my baby!”

Johnson’s daughter had been outside and heard an argument before the gunfire erupted. Johnson rushed outside and called 911.

“I saw the paramedic running out, holding the baby in his arms. It was horrible,” Johnson said.

Another neighbor described the number of gunshots as an entire clip being unloaded.

A man who identified himself as the grandfather of the wounded boy came outside to talk to reporters. He said they were having a family dinner before an argument between two family members led to the shooting. He said at least five bullets hit the toddler and his nephew, the adult victim, but both are now doing well.

Police said they were quickly able to identify the shooting suspect and take him into custody.

They initially said he is a relative of the victims but later said that wasn’t correct. The grandfather said the suspect is related by marriage.

Police arrested the suspected shooter in Cypress some time before 8 a.m., LBPD spokeswoman Arantxa Chavarria said. Police still don’t know the motivation for the shooting.

Police were unable to provide the suspect’s name and additional details because he is still being interviewed by detectives and hasn’t been booked into jail yet, Chavarria said.

Police ask that anyone with information on the incident to contact detectives at 562-570-7370. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org.
