Police swarmed a Long Beach neighborhood Sunday night after a man allegedly fired several shots from an apartment building near Seventh Street and Cedar Avenue, officials said.
Police were first called to the area at about 10:20 p.m. about an assault with a deadly weapon, police spokesman Brandon Fahey said. At the scene, they talked to a woman who was hit in the upper body by bullet fragments, according to the LBPD. Fahey couldn’t say whether the woman was a bystander or somehow targeted in the shooting.
“Through their investigation, officers determined that a male adult suspect fired several shots from a nearby multi-unit residence,” Fahey said. Officers found bullet casings and established a perimeter before calling out the other residents in the apartment building, police said. No other injuries were reported.
It’s unclear where exactly the suspect was shooting from or what he was shooting at.
Few additional details were immediately available, but when the officers served a search warrant at the residence, they found a gun and arrested a man before taking him to a local hospital to be cleared for booking, police said.
He was arrested on suspicion of being a prohibited possessor of a firearm, but police are still trying to figure out if he was responsible for the shooting, Fahey said. Police also don’t yet know the motive for the shooting and are still investigating.
