Long Beach police are investigating a midnight carjacking and robbery in North Long Beach near Cherry Avenue and Candlewood Street last night, authorities said.

The victim told police he was walking in a parking lot in the 5500 block of Cherry Avenue when a man approached him, pointed a black, metal object at him and demanded his money, Officer Alvino Herrera said.

“The victim gave the suspect the property that was in his pockets, including his car keys,” Herrera said. “The suspect ran to the victim’s vehicle where another suspect was standing. Both suspects got into the vehicle and drove off.”

The victim was not hurt, police said.
