A man was killed in a drive-by shooting Sunday afternoon on the 1100 block of East Pacific Coast Highway, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) said today.

Officers responded to the scene at about 12:45PM to find a man, identified as 33-year-old Robert Lee Hollie of Long Beach, had been struck in the torso by gunfire.

Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) paramedics transported Hollie to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

A preliminary investigation found that Hollie had been approached by two black males in a dark-colored vehicle, when one of the occupants opened fire, striking Hollie. The car then fled westbound on Pacific Coast Highway.

While a motive for the shooting is unknown, the incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related.
