Police said a man was fatally shot in Long Beach this weekend, but few details were available about what happened.

Officers were dispatched at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday to a shooting call in the area of 17th Street and Santa Fe Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers found a 43-year-old Long Beach man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body, the LBPD said.

Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, authorities said.

The victim was identified as Jesse Stiles, the LBPD reported..

“Homicide detectives are investigating the motive and circumstances leading up to the shooting and are working to identify possible suspect(s),” according to a police statement.
