Police say they arrested a 41-year-old Long Beach man accused of fatally shooting another man this weekend in West Long Beach.

Officers were dispatched at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday to a shooting call in the area of 17th Street and Santa Fe Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers found a 43-year-old Long Beach man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body, police said.

Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said. The victim was identified as Jesse Stiles.

Shortly after 3:50 p.m. on Sunday, detectives arrested Orlando Joel Villarreal, 41, of Long Beach, in Carson on suspicion of murder in connection with the fatal shooting, according to jail records.

Villarreal was being held on $2,000,000 bail, records show.

“Homicide detectives are investigating the motive and circumstances leading up to the shooting and are working to identify possible suspect(s),” according to a police statement.
