A Long Beach man suspected of fatally stabbing another man was arrested Saturday night, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officials said.

Officers were dispatched to Downtown Long Beach’s Lincoln Park, located at 151 Pacific Avenue, at 9:05PM Saturday regarding a fight between two men.

Authorities arrived at the scene and located a man with an apparent stab wound in his torso. He was transported to a local hospital by Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) paramedics, where he eventually died of his injuries, officials said.

Phillip Lester Vargas, 51, was booked for murder and is currently being held in Long Beach City Jail on $1 million bail.

The cause of the fight is unknown at this time. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to officials.
