A homeless man was found shot to death on the sidewalk in an industrial area of Long Beach early Tuesday morning, police said.

After getting reports about gunfire around 2:45 a.m., police officers found the man with multiple gunshot wounds at the corner of Daisy Avenue and 17th Street, Long Beach Police Department Lt. Poe Siavii said. The location is just north of Washington Middle School.

Roxanna Ruiz, who lives nearby, said there was a barrage of gunfire.

“I just heard like eight shots,” she said.

Authorities said the shooter may have ridden away from the intersection on a bicycle.

Detectives haven’t determined a motive for the slaying, but police don’t believe it’s gang-related, LBPD spokesman Sgt. Brad Johnson said.

Investigators were canvassing the area, which is mostly warehouses and businesses, for security camera footage, police said.

Authorities have not released the name of the man who was shot to death. He is in his 30s, according to police.

Juan Ruez, who works at a nearby company that moves shipping containers, said he’d seen the man walking a dog in the neighborhood a couple of times before.

The victim has brothers, at least one of whom lives nearby, according to Ruiz and workers at nearby businesses who’d seen them around the neighborhood.

More to come.
