Police say a 60-year-old man who was struck by a car in March while walking in a crosswalk in Central Long Beach has died from his injuries.

The crash happened shortly after 3:15 p.m. on March 30 at the intersection of Cedar Avenue and Anaheim Street, according to Long Beach police.

Investigators determined a Chevrolet sedan making a left turn onto Anaheim Street from Cedar Avenue struck the victim while he was in a crosswalk, police said.

The victim was conscious and able to speak with officers before he was taken to a hospital, police said. On April 29, the man succumbed to his injuries.

He was identified as 60-year-old Marco Duarte-Gonzalez, of Long Beach. Duarte-Gonzalez was born in Jalisco, Mexico, according to an online obituary.

“Marco’s journey from his birthplace in Mexico to the United States was marked by hard work, determination, and an unwavering commitment to his family and friends,” part of the obituary read. “Marco was known not only for his strength and resilience but also for his sense of humor and ability to brighten the lives of those around him.”

The Chevrolet driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.
