Police are investigating after a man was shot Thursday morning near Franklin Middle School in North Alamitos Beach.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting were not immediately clear, but police say they responded to the crime just before 7 a.m. in the 400 block of Cerritos Avenue.
There, they found the man suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body, according to the Long Beach Police Department. He was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive, police said.
The suspect, meanwhile, fled the scene before officers arrived, according to police. No further suspect information was available.
